Summer 2027 applications available at reviewStart with the work you want to do: reporting, production, audio, design, audience, communications, marketing, product or engineering. Select two or three samples that make your fit easy to understand instead of sending every project you have.
For each sample, state the assignment or goal, what you personally did, which tools you used and how the result was reviewed. Do not imply that you produced an entire group project or publish work you do not have permission to share.
Media programs vary widely in hours, term length, location and housing support. Confirm whether a role is part time during a semester or full time in summer, whether it is hybrid or on site, and whether you can afford the location before applying.
Media and communications applications are judged on things you have actually made. A student newspaper article, a campus radio segment, a podcast episode, a short documentary, a social campaign for a society, or a newsletter you write all qualify. Collect three or four pieces you are willing to be judged on, make them easy to open, and be ready to say what you would change about each one now.
Editorial work at a news organization and communications work inside a company or agency reward different instincts, and the applications should read differently. Editorial applications want evidence you can report, verify and write to length under time pressure. Communications applications want evidence you can hold a message steady across audiences. Decide which you are applying for and stop trying to write one letter for both.
Often not. Many of these employers care more about what you have produced than what you are studying, though some editorial programs prefer relevant coursework.
Follow the posting. Where a number is given, respect it. Where it is open, three or four strong pieces with a line of context each is usually better than a large archive.
Yes, when you can describe it concretely — who the audience was, what you were trying to achieve, what you posted and what happened. Use real numbers only where you actually tracked them.
