Who can apply?
- Summer 2027 applicants must be enrolled full time toward an undergraduate degree in Spring 2027; students graduating that spring may apply. CHCI publishes no required major and welcomes fields from health and engineering to business, communications and technology.
- CHCI lists a preference for a 3.0 GPA or higher rather than an absolute minimum, plus leadership potential, commitment to public-service activity and strong analytical, written and oral communication.
- Applicants interested in investing in the Latino community or working on policies affecting Latino communities are welcome. DACA applicants may apply but, if admitted, need valid employment authorization for the full program.
Interns cannot choose a particular member's office. CHCI considers regional background, affiliation and work style when possible but does not guarantee a specific placement.

How to prepare a stronger application
Use the essays to connect public policy to a community you know and an action you have taken. CHCI explicitly evaluates leadership and commitment to advancing the Latino community, so show the setting, your role and what you learned without reducing your story to a list of organizations.
Ask a recommender who has directly observed your judgment, writing or public-service work. Give that person the deadline and a short description of the program early, then use your resume and transcript to provide factual context rather than duplicating the essays.
