Internship Interview Guide: How to Prepare and What to Say
Updated July 1, 2026
To prepare for an internship interview, research the company, prepare a few stories about things you've done, and have two or three thoughtful questions ready. Most internship interviews are about attitude and fit, not trick questions, show genuine interest and that you'll be easy to work with.
How to prepare
- Read the company's site and know what they do.
- Prepare 2-3 short stories (a project, a challenge, a time you took initiative).
- Practice a clear, 30-second answer to "tell me about yourself."
- Prepare questions to ask them.
Questions to ask the interviewer
- What would an intern actually work on here?
- What makes an intern successful on your team?
- What are you hoping to get done this summer?

What do they ask in an internship interview?
Usually: tell me about yourself, why this company, a project you're proud of, and a challenge you handled. Prepare short, specific answers.
