Internship Interview Guide: How to Prepare and What to Say
Updated July 1, 2026
To prepare for an internship interview, research the company, prepare a few stories about things you've done, and have two or three thoughtful questions ready. Most internship interviews are about attitude and fit, not trick questions — show genuine interest and that you'll be easy to work with.
How to prepare
- Read the company's site and know what they do.
- Prepare 2–3 short stories (a project, a challenge, a time you took initiative).
- Practice a clear, 30-second answer to "tell me about yourself."
- Prepare questions to ask them.
Questions to ask the interviewer
- What would an intern actually work on here?
- What makes an intern successful on your team?
- What are you hoping to get done this summer?

What do they ask in an internship interview?
Usually: tell me about yourself, why this company, a project you're proud of, and a challenge you handled. Prepare short, specific answers.
