Who can apply?

  • Gilead's program page asks for rising sophomores, juniors and seniors in undergraduate study, or graduate and doctoral students, who will be enrolled at an accredited college or university in the fall semester after the internship; certification programs do not count. The 2027 posting reviewed words the same rule as current freshmen through seniors with continued full-time enrollment the following fall.
  • Applicants need a minimum 2.8 cumulative GPA, must be at least 18, and must be able to complete an internship of 10 to 12 weeks. The posting reviewed says the GPA applies at both application and hire and that official transcripts are requested.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship. The 2027 posting reviewed specifies authorization that does not require school or employer sponsorship now or in the future.
Easy to miss

The 2027 posting reviewed requires work authorization that does not depend on school or employer sponsorship, which is stricter than simply being allowed to work in the US. Students whose authorization comes through their school should read that line before applying.

Dates, pay & program timing

No universal cutoff confirmed

Gilead describes a paid internship of 10 to 12 weeks in the summer, and the 2027 posting reviewed requires 10–12 consecutive weeks between May and August. Internship postings for Foster City were live on the review date, several of them posted in September 2026. Gilead publishes no program-wide deadline; postings sit in its Workday careers site under the Internship Group job category.

How to apply to Gilead Sciences

  1. Confirm you will be enrolled full time in the fall after the internship. Gilead's page and the posting reviewed both make that a condition, which rules out a senior graduating in the spring.
  2. Open Gilead's Workday careers site, choose Internship Group under Job Category, and read each description for its location, degree and preferred fields of study.
  3. Have an official transcript ready. The posting reviewed says official transcripts will be requested and that the 2.8 GPA is checked at application and again at hire.

Our editorial advice · not employer requirements

How to prepare a stronger application

Gilead groups its internships into corporate, commercial, pharmaceutical development and manufacturing, research and development, and an MBA finance track, and links a brochure for each on the program page. Read the one for your area before applying; it describes the teams in more depth than a single posting does.

The posting reviewed asks interns to present their work near the end of the internship. When you describe past projects, include one where you explained results to people outside your field, since that is how the summer finishes.

The program page lists housing and travel assistance for eligible interns, paid holidays and a small monthly device stipend. If Foster City would mean relocating, ask how housing eligibility works for you at the offer stage rather than assuming.
