Who can apply?

  • SCA describes its conservation internships as being for college students and recent graduates; the individual placement controls its education, age, driving, schedule and location requirements.
  • Placements can involve ecological restoration, wildlife and vegetation monitoring, interpretation, Geographic Information Systems, trails, fire or other site-specific work.
  • A partner reviews SCA's pre-qualified candidates and makes the final selection, so joining the SCA system does not itself create an internship offer.
  • Some duties can make a position AmeriCorps eligible, but an education award is conditional on enrollment in AmeriCorps and successful completion of that position.
Easy to miss

SCA is a placement network, not one uniform job. Do not carry the pay, housing, driving or AmeriCorps conditions from one opportunity into another.

Dates, pay & program timing

No universal cutoff confirmed

SCA says conservation internships range from eight weeks to 12 months. Partners provide funding, training, professional development, housing or its cost, on-the-job transportation and evaluations; SCA handles payroll, background checks and administrative support. Availability and start dates belong to each placement.

How to apply to Student Conservation Association

  1. Search SCA's current opportunities and shortlist placements whose dates, site, housing terms and required skills fit you; the program-model page is not a single application.
  2. Build the SCA profile and application around evidence for the selected work, such as a field course, GIS map, outdoor job, public-facing role or carefully documented campus project.
  3. Complete the official SCA process and any partner interview, then verify the funding, housing, transportation, AmeriCorps option and full service dates in writing before accepting.

Our editorial advice · not employer requirements

How to prepare a stronger application

For field work, describe how you followed a protocol, recorded observations or worked safely outdoors. For interpretation or communications, use a sample that makes technical information understandable without overstating it.

Read the practical conditions as closely as the mission. Remote sites can involve shared housing, driving, weather, physical work and limited transport, and those details decide whether a placement is realistic.
