Museums publish on different calendars: some announce a cohort months ahead with a fixed deadline, while others reopen only after a past cycle has closed. Each guide here shows the status we found at review. Use a closed cohort for preparation, then verify the next announcement. Museum units can differ in student status, compensation, recommendations, housing, and full-time attendance requirements.
Museum, gallery and cultural internships split broadly into work with the collection — curatorial, conservation, registration, archives, research — and work with the public, including education, visitor experience, events, communications and development. They want different evidence and often different coursework. Name which one you are applying for and connect it to something concrete you have done.
Arrangements vary more in this sector than most. Some programs are paid, some offer a stipend that does not cover a full living cost, and some are structured around academic credit. This directory records what each publisher states. Work out the actual cost of participating, including travel and housing, before committing, and ask directly when the terms are unclear.
For curatorial and conservation routes, relevant coursework often matters. For education, communications, development, visitor experience and digital roles, many disciplines are welcome.
It varies considerably, which is why each guide here shows what the source says. Check the individual posting and confirm the terms in writing before accepting.
For practice-based and design roles, often yes. For research, education and administrative roles, usually not — a writing sample or a well-described project is more likely to be what is asked for.
