Who can apply?
- Applicants must be enrolled at an accredited US college or university and normally take at least six units. A student entering a final Spring 2027 quarter or semester with fewer than six units may also apply.
- Spring applicants must attend a college or university in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino or Ventura County, or be enrolled in a Semester in LA program, and must remain enrolled for the Spring 2027 term.
- Applicants must be US citizens or hold a valid Permanent Resident card when they submit. The Foundation says students on F-1 visas are not eligible, and the hired intern must provide a US Social Security number for payroll and the background check.
Applicants may submit only one entry in one category, and prior Foundation interns cannot apply again. Choosing a category casually can waste the only permitted application.

How to apply to Television Academy Foundation
- Treat the Spring 2027 submission window as closed; the official page says no exceptions. If you applied, watch the address used in your application for the late-October status message.
- For a future eligible cycle, select one category only. Compare its preferred background and samples before applying because editing and music, for example, publish distinct video requirements.
- Prepare enrollment proof and the category-specific work sample before opening the portal, then submit a complete packet before its stated cutoff. Finalists must also provide a recommendation letter.

Our editorial advice · not employer requirements
How to prepare a stronger application
Build evidence for the craft, not just for a general interest in television. A development applicant can show script coverage or close reading; a publicity applicant can show precise audience writing; an editor or composer should make a short reel easy to play and understand.
Plan the Los Angeles term as a real paid work commitment. Even if a placement is hybrid or remote, the eligibility rule is tied to local college enrollment, and interns remain responsible for housing, local transportation and living expenses.
