Who can apply?

  • Applicants must be at least 18 and currently enrolled after completing sophomore or junior year by the internship, or currently enrolled in a graduate program. Recent graduates are not eligible.
  • The Padres ask for passion for sports and the business behind the game, a long-term interest in professional sports and an exceptional college GPA, but the page gives no numeric GPA cutoff.
  • Students who attend school in San Diego, are from San Diego or have bilingual skills are highly preferred. Preference is not the same as a mandatory residency or language rule.
Easy to miss

Recent graduates are explicitly ineligible even if they completed the same coursework as an enrolled senior. Enrollment status at the time of the program matters.

Dates, pay & program timing

No universal cutoff confirmed

Recruitment and selection begin in winter. The ten-week program runs June through August and requires commitment to the full term, including work during the baseball season on game and non-game days. Individual opportunities appear on the Padres' careers portal; the overview publishes no universal deadline or pay figure.

How to apply to San Diego Padres

  1. Read the Padres program overview, then use its official application link only when individual summer internship roles are posted during winter recruiting.
  2. Choose a department based on work you can discuss—sales, finance, community relations, operations or technology—rather than submitting one generic sports resume to every opening.
  3. Check the selected opening's deadline, compensation, schedule and documents, then apply through the official portal and keep the role description and confirmation.

Our editorial advice · not employer requirements

How to prepare a stronger application

Translate sports interest into business evidence. Ticketing, event, customer-service, statistics, communications or campus operations experience is more useful when you state the audience, constraint and your own responsibility.

Expect the schedule to follow the season. Identify how you have handled evenings, events or changing priorities while remaining reliable, and make sure the full June-to-August commitment fits before applying.
