A technology consultant may prototype systems, an audit intern may test financial evidence, and a strategy team may study markets or operating decisions. Match one course, project, campus role or job to that work instead of sending the same broad application to every service line.
Professional-services openings can use graduation windows, office preferences, travel expectations, accounting-coursework rules or future licensing requirements. Confirm the selected office, term and degree conditions before preparing an application. A firm's general student page does not make every practice available to every class year.
Use the official role and candidate instructions to learn whether there is an assessment, case discussion, technical screen or behavioral interview. Practice explaining the problem, evidence, recommendation and tradeoffs in your own work. Do not rely on leaked interview material or assume that one firm's process applies to another.
Most consulting recruiting includes some form of case or problem-solving exercise, and it tests structured thinking out loud rather than a memorized framework. Practice breaking an unfamiliar problem into parts, saying your assumptions as you make them, doing arithmetic without hiding it, and saying what you would want to know next. Use whatever preparation material the firm supplies, and be ready to be interrupted and redirected — that is normal and not a sign you are failing.
Consulting placements vary in how much travel, client-site work and shifting team assignment they involve, and a summer internship may or may not reflect the full-time pattern. Ask what a typical intern week looks like, where the work happens, and how projects are assigned. These are reasonable questions and the answers tell you more about fit than the brand does.
Usually not. These firms recruit from many disciplines and are generally explicit about that. What they screen for is structured reasoning and communication, which any subject can demonstrate.
Enough that the structure feels natural rather than recited. Working through a modest number of cases carefully, ideally with someone who can interrupt you, beats grinding through many alone.
Some firms run separate early-insight or discovery programs for them, with their own eligibility and earlier deadlines. Check the firm's student pages rather than assuming the summer analyst route is the only door.
