Who can apply?

  • Undergraduate applicants must have completed at least one year of study. Wolf Trap also lists graduate students, recent graduates up to two years out of school and career changers enrolled in a degree program.
  • Interns must be physically located in and have a local address in Virginia, Maryland or the District of Columbia for the entire internship.
  • International students may apply with a J-1 or F-1 visa under the published rule. Every intern must be able to work on site two or three days each week because Wolf Trap does not offer remote internships.
Easy to miss

Opening the application starts a three-day completion window, and the program is not remote. Do not begin until your files, references and local participation plan are ready.

Dates, pay & program timing

No universal cutoff confirmed

Wolf Trap says it is not currently accepting internship applications. Its recurring deadlines are August 1 for fall, December 1 for spring and March 1 for summer. Internships last 12 weeks: spring and fall are part time at up to 21 hours a week, while summer is full time at 35 hours a week. The page says all positions are paid but gives no rate.

How to apply to Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts

  1. Watch the official Wolf Trap page before the published seasonal deadline and wait for a real internship opening; the page currently says applications are not being accepted.
  2. Confirm that you will have a DC, Maryland or Virginia address and can attend on site two or three days a week for the full 12-week term.
  3. When a role opens, prepare the cover letter, resume and two reference contacts before starting the online form. Wolf Trap says the entire application must be completed within three days, with a writing sample or design portfolio for selected positions.

Our editorial advice · not employer requirements

How to prepare a stronger application

Translate arts interest into operating evidence. A box-office job, campus performance, donor event, student publication or production crew can show how you handled an audience, schedule, budget, handoff or live deadline—the daily work behind a performing-arts organization.

For communications or design, build a compact sample set with context for each piece. For education, development or events, prepare one example that shows planning and follow-through across people with different needs rather than relying on a general statement about loving the arts.
