Who can apply?

  • An undergraduate applicant must be in the final academic year of a first university degree before the internship starts. UNDP also accepts eligible graduate students and people who begin within one year of graduation.
  • UNDP asks applicants to demonstrate an interest in development and says previous work experience is not required.
  • Fluency in English is required, along with the working language of the office when relevant. The vacancy controls the subject background, location, schedule and any additional language rule.
Easy to miss

UNDP's undergraduate route is limited to the final academic year. The word student does not make earlier bachelor's years eligible for this program.

Dates, pay & program timing

No universal cutoff confirmed

UNDP internships are posted individually on its jobs page and usually last three to six months. They may run as long as nine months when completed for academic credit. The arrangement can be in person or remote. UNDP says interns who are not financially supported by another institution or government are eligible for a location-based monthly stipend.

How to apply to United Nations Development Programme

  1. Confirm that you will be in the final academic year of your bachelor's before the internship begins, then find a current internship on UNDP's official jobs page.
  2. Match the vacancy to a development theme, country or operating function and make one relevant course, analysis, writing sample or project prominent in the application.
  3. Apply to the individual opening and confirm its location, work arrangement, language, duration, stipend and closing date rather than relying on the program overview.

Our editorial advice · not employer requirements

How to prepare a stronger application

Read the office's current country or thematic program and identify one narrow problem the assignment supports. Explain the evidence you would use without presenting yourself as an expert on communities you have not worked with.

Prepare a short example of turning research into a useful decision or clear communication. Development work often needs accurate synthesis for people with different professional and cultural contexts.
