Who can apply?
- CSIS's internship FAQ says students become eligible after completing two years of undergraduate credits; this guide therefore lists the undergraduate route for juniors and seniors.
- US citizenship is not required, but every intern must already have authorization to work in the United States. CSIS does not sponsor visas for interns.
- The live position decides which documents are required. CSIS accepts official or unofficial transcripts and instructs applicants to address a requested cover letter to 'To Whom It May Concern.'
CSIS's FAQ uses completed undergraduate credits, not the class label on your student portal. Confirm that you have completed two full years before counting yourself eligible.
Dates, pay & program timing
CSIS says internships are typically posted in February for summer (June–August), July for fall (September–December), and October for spring (January–May). A role can close when review begins or it is filled unless its posting states another date.

How to apply to Center for Strategic and International Studies
- Check the CSIS opportunities board around the normal posting month and select a live role whose program, schedule and subject fit your preparation.
- Confirm two years of completed undergraduate credit, US work authorization and every role-specific document before starting the online application.
- Submit the requested resume, cover letter, transcript or writing sample through the portal and keep a copy because the role may disappear once review begins.

How to prepare a stronger application
Practice converting a long source into a short factual brief with a clear bottom line, citations and a distinction between what the evidence establishes and what you infer.
Choose one CSIS program and read its newest work. Be ready to explain both why its questions matter and how your research, language, data, writing or event experience could support them.
