- Sophomores with four quarters or three semesters, juniors, or non-graduating seniors returning to undergraduate study in the fall.

How to apply to Amgen Scholars US hosts
- Use the US host list to find a research setting and read that host's current cycle page.
- Each host has its own application. Prepare at least the requested official transcript, recommendation letter, and personal statement/essay; additional requirements vary.
- Check the host's current dates and funding before submitting. Track each host separately rather than treating one application as submission to every institution.

Our editorial advice · not employer requirements
How to prepare a stronger application
Explain a scientific question that interests you and why supervised research is the right next step. Identify a relevant method you have encountered and a gap you want to address. You can write a thoughtful statement without overstating your laboratory independence.
For each host, keep a short note on research themes, available mentorship, dates, and living arrangements. A prestigious name is not enough to choose a placement. Consider whether the project and environment would help you make an informed decision about advanced research training.
