Who can apply?

  • Current sophomores and juniors who will return to undergraduate study after the program are the regular route.
  • Exceptional first-year students with prior independent research may be considered; this is not blanket freshman eligibility.
  • International eligibility depends on where the student is enrolled and the laboratory's stated arrangements. Read the current restrictions before applying.
Easy to miss

First-year consideration requires prior independent research; ordinary laboratory coursework alone should not be presented as that experience.

Our editorial advice · not employer requirements

How to prepare a stronger application

Build the statement around one scientific question and the methods you want to learn. First-year applicants should define their independent research contribution precisely.

Give each recommender a short research-interest note and enough time to submit. Track their letters separately from your own form.
