Who can apply?
- Current undergraduate with two full-time undergraduate semesters completed before the program starts and at least one semester remaining afterward.
- The standard international route requires full-time enrollment at a physically located US institution and appropriate authorization; named partner routes have separate rules.
- Graduate-phase combined-degree students, graduating students with no undergraduate term remaining, and ordinary overseas exchange routes are not eligible.
A first-year student can qualify only if two full-time semesters will be completed before the program begins.
Dates, pay & program timing
Applications are described annually as November 1–January 20 at 3 p.m. Eastern. The last published immersion ran June 1–August 8, 2026. All participants receive financial support stated in their offer; they arrange their own housing.

How to apply to Carnegie Mellon Robotics Institute

- Prepare a resume, statement of purpose, unofficial transcript, and at least one faculty recommendation.
- Submit by the current cycle's published cutoff and budget separately for Pittsburgh housing.
