Who can apply?

  • AbbVie's internships page says currently enrolled third-year undergraduates, and graduate students pursuing a master's, MBA, PhD or PharmD, should consider applying, and adds that eligibility varies by program. That is encouragement, not a stated minimum year.
  • AbbVie describes its internships as full-time, paid positions of ten to twelve weeks, typically running from May to August, with relocation support for eligible interns through its relocation vendor.
  • Individual postings carry the binding rules. The 2027 Global Supply Chain intern posting reviewed, for example, requires a bachelor's program, enrollment for the semester after the internship, expected graduation between December 2027 and June 2028, and a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
Easy to miss

The EXCEL externship and the Discover Accounting and Finance event are short programs for first- and second-year students, not summer internships, and the Discover posting states that it is unpaid. They are useful stepping stones toward an internship interview, but they are not the paid summer role itself.

Dates, pay & program timing

No universal cutoff confirmed

AbbVie says most student roles open in early fall, between August and October, and 2027 undergraduate internship postings were live on the review date. The student programs page also describes the EXCEL externship, a two-day August program for second-year undergraduates that can lead to an interview for the following summer's internship, and a 2027 posting describes an unpaid Discover Accounting and Finance event on May 20, 2027 for freshmen and sophomores. No single internship deadline is published.

How to apply to AbbVie

  1. Decide which route fits your year. Third-year and graduate students are the ones AbbVie encourages for the summer internship; first- and second-year students should look at the EXCEL externship and Discover programs first.
  2. Search AbbVie's careers site for 2027 internship postings and check each one's degree, graduation window and GPA against your own record — those differ by posting.
  3. Apply early in the fall. AbbVie says most student roles open between August and October, and that interviews may be by phone or video with behavioral, technical or case-style questions depending on the role.

Our editorial advice · not employer requirements

How to prepare a stronger application

AbbVie's interview description covers behavioral, technical and case-style questions, and the mix depends on the function. For a supply chain or finance posting, practise talking through a small quantitative problem aloud; for a lab-based role, be ready to explain one experiment you ran and what you would change.

The Global Supply Chain posting reviewed finishes with interns presenting project recommendations to AbbVie leaders. If you have presented analysis to a class, club or employer, describe who the audience was and what decision it informed — that is the skill the internship ends on.
