Who can apply?
- Uber's emerging-talent page describes Uber Career Prep for first- and second-year undergraduates at the time of application who are studying computer science, software engineering, math or a closely related major, and it encourages community college transfer students to apply.
- The program page sets narrower basic qualifications for North America and Latin America: pursuing an undergraduate degree in computer science or a related field, having taken an introduction to programming course and a data structures and algorithms course, graduating between December 2027 and August 2028, and studying in Brazil, Canada, Mexico or the United States.
- Uber describes the program as an unpaid fellowship, open to qualified students on merit who have shown perseverance and taken actions that make a difference in their communities.
This is an unpaid fellowship, not an internship. It is also narrower than the headline "first- and second-year" wording suggests: the program page's graduation window decides eligibility.
Dates, pay & program timing
The emerging-talent page lists the fellowship as eight months, delivered virtually across the United States and Canada, with applications in October and November. The program page describes five workshops, one-to-one mentorship from an Uber software engineer, technical mock interviews and take-home practice. It is a preparation program, and the pages do not say it leads to an internship offer.

Our editorial advice · not employer requirements
How to prepare a stronger application
Selection weighs community impact and perseverance, so describe one thing you started or kept going for other people — a tutoring group, a club, family responsibilities — and what changed because of it.
The program exists to prepare you for internship interviews, so be honest about your starting point: which data structures course you took, what you have built, and what you want to get better at. A clear gap you want to close reads better than overstated experience.
