Who can apply?

  • Abbott's program page requires candidates to be pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree with at least one year of university-level education and a GPA of 3.0 or equivalent, and to be eligible to work in the country of application without needing Abbott's sponsorship at any time.
  • Candidates must be able to complete the entire assignment as defined by location, and study in one of the listed areas, which run from science, IT, engineering and math through operations, quality, regulatory affairs, supply chain, finance, sales, HR and marketing.
  • 2027 US postings add their own rules. The Operations Internship Program posting reviewed requires one completed year of college before the start, a return to school afterward and geographic mobility; the IT internship posting asks for sophomore or junior standing in a bachelor's program. Both state hourly pay ranges.
Easy to miss

Applying to an Abbott program posting is often an application to a pool, not to one site. The Operations posting says applicants are submitting for general consideration and that interns must be geographically mobile, so the location offered may not be the one you hoped for.

Dates, pay & program timing

No universal cutoff confirmed

Abbott's program page says project and assignment length vary by location and publishes no application window or deadline. 2027 US internship postings were live on the review date, and the IT posting describes a twelve-week summer assignment.

How to apply to Abbott

  1. Choose a function first. Operations, IT, finance, sales and brand management are recruited through separate 2027 postings with different class-standing rules.
  2. Read the posting's requirements closely — the IT internship asks for sophomore or junior standing, while the Operations program asks for one completed year of college before the start.
  3. Apply through the Abbott careers site. The Operations posting says applicants are submitting for general consideration and will be contacted by a talent acquisition professional if they fit a current need.

Our editorial advice · not employer requirements

How to prepare a stronger application

Many Abbott internships are placed by Abbott rather than chosen by you: the Operations posting lists more than twenty possible sites and requires geographic mobility, and the Finance posting says assignment locations are matched by Abbott. Decide honestly how far you are willing to move before you apply.

Abbott says projects conclude with a final presentation to senior leaders, division executives and colleagues. Prepare an example of a project you finished and presented, with the result you reported, because that is the format your summer ends on.
