Who can apply?
- The program is for undergraduate juniors, and the Summer 2027 postings specify an expected graduation between Winter 2027 and Spring 2028.
- The postings say the roles involve confidential supervisory or FOMC information, access to which is limited to US citizens, lawful permanent residents, individuals meeting the definition of a protected individual under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3), and certain other nonimmigrants. Non-citizens granted access must sign a declaration of intent to become a permanent resident and then a citizen when eligible.
- Sophomores have a separate Sophomore Career Exploration Program, whose page said Summer 2027 sophomore applications were closed. First-year students are offered a one-hour webinar rather than an internship.
The Federal Reserve Board and the twelve Reserve Banks run separate programs. Applying to the New York Fed's junior program does not put you in the Board's internship pool, and the Board's rules do not govern this one.
Dates, pay & program timing
The Junior Summer Analyst page said Summer 2027 applications were open with a deadline of Monday, October 5. The individual postings give 11:59 p.m. on October 5, 2026 and label it EST; because New York is on daylight time that day, this record uses 11:59 p.m. New York time, the earlier reading. The postings describe a paid internship with wages paid semi-monthly for the 10 weeks from an annual salary of $72,100 in the New York postings reviewed and $63,400 in a Chicago Markets posting. Summer housing is not provided. The summer programs begin in early June.

How to apply to Federal Reserve Bank of New York
- Check the graduation window first: Winter 2027 to Spring 2028. A junior on an accelerated or extended schedule can fall outside it.
- Choose one business area. The Summer 2027 junior postings covered Markets (New York and Chicago), Research, Supervision, Audit, Technology, People & Engagement, and Strategy & Operating Services; apply through the Federal Reserve System careers site linked from the program page.
- Submit before 11:59 p.m. ET on October 5, 2026, and confirm any posting on the Federal Reserve System careers site itself, which the New York Fed names as the place to verify genuine openings.

Our editorial advice · not employer requirements
How to prepare a stronger application
Each posting names the tools it wants. The Markets posting, for example, asks for spreadsheet and database skills (Excel, SQL) and data visualization (Tableau), with Python or R as a plus. Bring one analysis where you sourced untidy data, built a chart that answered a question, and could summarise the result in two sentences for a policymaker.
Interns spend all ten weeks in one area, so choose deliberately. Read what that area does — open market operations, bank supervision, economic research — and be ready to say what you want to learn there that a commercial bank internship would not teach.
