Who can apply?

  • The BS/MS postings reviewed — Technical Program Manager, Hardware Engineering, Security Engineering and User Experience Engineer — each require current pursuit of a bachelor's or master's degree in a named technical field, and each adds its own skill requirements.
  • Several say the internship is intended for students in their penultimate academic year. All four list as preferred being in the penultimate year or returning to a degree program after the internship, attending a US degree program, and being available full time for 12 weeks outside term time.
  • Participation requires being located in the United States for the whole internship, and English proficiency is required. Separate PhD and master's-only postings exist and are not undergraduate routes.
Easy to miss

"Intended for students in their penultimate academic year" is the postings' own framing. A senior who graduates before the internship falls outside it, and the preferred qualifications also ask that you return to a degree program afterward.

Dates, pay & program timing

No universal cutoff confirmed

Each of the four postings reviewed asks applicants to complete the application before October 9, 2026, reviews applications on a rolling basis, and warns that a response can take upwards of 90 days; Google says that no word after three months likely means it proceeded with other candidates. Each posting publishes its own US pay range plus a 0% bonus target — for example $94,000 to $125,000 for Technical Program Manager and $86,000 to $115,000 for Hardware Engineering. Because this guide spans several postings, it records no single cutoff; use the date on the posting you apply to.

How to apply to Google

  1. Search Google Careers for Summer 2027 intern roles in the United States and open the BS/MS postings rather than the PhD or MS-only ones. Minimum qualifications differ by role.
  2. Prepare an updated resume showing your anticipated graduation date in MM/YY form and a current unofficial or official transcript in English, as PDFs.
  3. Apply before October 9, 2026. Attach the resume in the Resume section, select "Now attending" under Degree Status to upload the transcript, and choose a preferred office from the posting's list.

Our editorial advice · not employer requirements

How to prepare a stronger application

The role minimums are concrete, so map your evidence to them line by line. The Hardware Engineering posting names areas like board bring-up, signal integrity and FPGAs; User Experience Engineer asks for JavaScript, HTML, CSS and interface work; Technical Program Manager asks for a general-purpose language plus project leadership. Pick the posting where you can point to a project for every minimum.

The Technical Program Manager posting lists open-source contributions among its preferred qualifications, and the Security posting lists privacy knowledge. If you have a merged pull request or a documented security lab, link it where a reviewer will see it. If you do not, a clearly described class project is better than a vague claim.
