Who can apply?
- For the US, AMD requires applicants to be at least 18, enrolled at a university pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree, and to have at least one semester or term remaining after their work at AMD.
- Applicants must study in the country of the placement and be legally eligible or authorized to work there as an intern or co-op.
- AMD's FAQ states that all its intern and co-op positions are paid; it publishes no GPA minimum or class-year rule.
The US summer window runs from August to November, far earlier than the January-to-March summer window AMD lists for Canada. A US student working from the Canadian timeline will miss it.
Dates, pay & program timing
AMD publishes a recurring US timeline: summer internship positions open to applicants in August and close in November, starting in May or June for 12 weeks. Co-ops last 28 weeks, starting either in January (positions open in August and close in November) or in May or June (open in August, close in March). These are program patterns, not dated deadlines.

How to apply to AMD
- Check the US eligibility list, including the rule that you must be studying in the United States to intern there.
- Apply between August and November for a summer internship. AMD says you may apply to more than one role but recommends focusing on the best fits.
- If your application is a match, a recruiter contacts you for a screening call, followed by meetings with the hiring team.

Our editorial advice · not employer requirements
How to prepare a stronger application
AMD designs CPUs, GPUs and adaptive chips, and its intern stories include thermal design, IP systems and silicon design. Match your strongest project to that range — a computer architecture assignment, a thermal or mechanical analysis, an FPGA build — and say what you measured.
AMD asks candidates not to use AI to generate or read answers during live interviews or to submit AI-written code as their own, while encouraging it for research and preparation. Practice explaining your own code aloud. This is our suggestion, based on that stated policy.
