Who can apply?

  • Current full- or part-time undergraduate and graduate students may apply. Teach For America also lists renewing fellows, admitted corps members, alumni and previously accepted deferred fellows as eligible routes.
  • Applicants need at least a 2.5 undergraduate GPA; first-year college students without an undergraduate record use a 3.0 high-school GPA. They must be at least 18 by the first fellowship day, authorized to work in the United States and able to complete an online background check.
  • Fellows must sustain a consistent schedule of up to five hours a week during K-12 school hours. The work is virtual and requires a computer with a camera, microphone and speaker plus a strong, secure internet connection.
Easy to miss

An admission offer is not yet a tutoring placement. Student-group schedules are claimed first come, first served, and a fellow who cannot find a compatible time may need to defer.

The Spring 2027 application opened September 2, 2026 and closes November 18, 2026; admissions notifications are scheduled for December 16. The fellowship runs January 19 through April 30, 2027, with training during the first two weeks. Teach For America's current application page says fellows may receive up to a $1,200 pre-tax stipend, while its current logistics FAQ says a $1,000 education award. Because the publisher's pages conflict, confirm the amount in the written 2027 terms.

How to apply to Teach For America

  1. Check your age, GPA, work authorization and weekday availability before starting; a college schedule with no recurring K-12 school-hour window is not a workable match.
  2. Prepare four short answers of no more than 300 words and two recorded video reflections. The application asks for leadership and community involvement instead of a conventional resume.
  3. Submit by November 18, then watch for the December 16 decision. If admitted, enter the first-come placement window promptly because acceptance does not guarantee a student group that fits your schedule.

Our editorial advice · not employer requirements

How to prepare a stronger application

Use the short answers to show dependable follow-through with young people or a community, not just a general interest in education. A campus tutoring role, youth activity, customer-facing job or recurring team commitment can demonstrate patience, preparation and responsiveness to feedback.

Treat the video reflections as judgment exercises. State what you would notice, how you would protect the student's dignity, when you would involve the site leader and how you would follow through. Test audio, lighting and framing before recording, but keep the response natural and entirely your own.
